Power outage in Whangamata tomorrow 16 September 2020 A power outage will be required that will affect most of the Whangamata community to complete the work tomorrow, Thursday 17 September from approximately 9.30am-2.30pm. The wild weather has resulted in damage to a double cross arm on one of the poles that holds the main conductor between Waihi and Whangamata. The cross arm has been made safe today but needs replacing with some urgency. Therefore, a power outage will be required that will affect most of the Whangamata community to complete the work tomorrow, Thursday 17 September from approximately 9.30am-2.30pm. The Whangamata battery (BESS) will be used during the outage period to support the CBD (Port Road). Timing of the outage: The majority of customers will be without power from 9.30am to 2.30pm. The CBD (Port Road) will be supported by the battery, however they may experience a short outage sometime between 9am and 9.30am, and again between 2.30pm and 3pm as the supply is switched from the lines to the battery and back. Map of the area supported by the BESS battery can be found at this link here. Power in the purple highlighted area will remain on during the planned outage.
